Roads Department

Our Mission:

A program component to maintain, repair and service roads and bridges that are part of the Road System. The purpose of the Roads Maintenance Program is to preserve, upkeep, and restore roads, right-of-way structures as nearly as possible or practicable to their original condition as constructed. The roads will be conserved and that a safe and usable road is provided for the traveling public.

Regular Maintenance surface pavement patching, surface blading, slope maintenance, weed control, repair to bridge railing, ditch cleaning, culvert pipe cleanout, removing small slides, repairing minor flood damages, sign replacement and other incident routine work required to keep roads in reasonably good condition and perform regularly on main traffic roads.

Regular maintenance shall be performed on 86.6 miles of Fort Mojave Indian Tribe Roads.

Objectives:

  • Develop a comprehensive maintenance schedule: Create a detailed plan outlining the frequency and scope of maintenance activities for each road segment. This schedule should consider factors such as traffic volume, road conditions, and weather patterns to ensure that critical maintenance is prioritized and performed effectively.

  • Implement a proactive maintenance approach: Shift from reactive maintenance, where repairs are made only after damage occurs, to a proactive approach that focuses on preventive measures. This involves regular inspections, routine maintenance tasks, and timely repairs of minor issues to prevent them from escalating into larger problems.

  • Enhance infrastructure management capabilities: Utilize technology and data analytics to improve infrastructure management practices. Implement asset management software to track road conditions, maintenance history, and resource allocation. Leverage data analytics to identify patterns and trends that can inform maintenance decisions and optimize resource utilization.

  • Strengthen communication and collaboration: Foster open communication channels with community members, local businesses, and emergency services to coordinate maintenance activities, address concerns, and ensure that road closures or disruptions are minimized.

  • Seek funding opportunities: Actively pursue funding sources from federal, state, and tribal programs to support road maintenance initiatives. Explore innovative financing mechanisms, such as public-private partnerships or user fees, to supplement traditional funding sources.
